BEACH DAYS: Join 4th grade Joel School Teacher and Clinton Land Trust President, Dana Skidmore, for 3 mornings of beach exploration. Campers will be introduced to varying habitats: the salt marsh, the sandy beach and the mud flats. They will use buckets, dip nets and beach seines to catch and release local marine life in the sound. They will get a crab’s eye view of barnacles feeding, periwinkles grazing on algae, green and blue crabs scurrying about. They will witness, first hand, the majestic osprey flying overhead and great egrets majestically wading in the water.
WOODLAND/FRESH WATER DAYS: Campers will discover some of Clinton’s finest hiking trails! Whether it is hiking through the land trust property of Peters Woods or the Indian River complex, children will explore local animal and plant species. They will learn the difference between a red oak and a white oak tree and they will listen to woodland bird calls; identifying bluejays, cardinals and robins by sound. Children will understand the importance of a vernal pool in our ecosystem and see first hand the lifecycle of a frog. They will lift up logs in search of salamanders and use their nets to capture dragonfly larva in the stream beds.
