Programs

Our High School camp is designed to help current high school fencers to develop their skills and prepare for continued success during the upcoming high school season. Some of the area’s best coaches for each weapon will work with you in group and one on one situations.

The camp will be run by Coach Jim Barnett (foil coach), the current head coach at The Morgan School in Clinton. Coach Barnett brings more than 30 years of elite competition and coaching experience and is one of the most respected coaches in all of Connecticut. Coach Barnett spent years helping to elevate the Guilford High School program into one of the state’s best, and his fencers have gone on to compete for Penn State University, Yale, Rutgers, Haverford, University of North Carolina and Sacred Heart, among others.

Foil will also be taught by Coach Jim Harris, currently the head coach at North Haven High School. Coach Harris was a letterman at the University of Notre Dame and captain of the team in his senior year. Coach came back to Connecticut after graduation and was head coach of North Haven for many years. He left North Haven to be owner/operator of ICONN Fencing Club (now Silver City Fencing Club). Coach Harris was assistant coach at Morgan for three years coaching the foils squads until the head coaching position at North Haven opened this past fall.

Epee will be coached by Chris Balestracci, the current assistant coach at The Morgan School. Before coming to Morgan, Coach Balestracci was an assistant coach at Guilford High School for many years helping that team win multiple state championships over the years. Coach graduated from Penn State University and still holds one of the top winning percentages for the University’s fencing team. Coach Balestracci is still a competitive fencer and has made several veteran Pan Am teams representing the United States.

Our Sabre coach for the camp will be Alan Fotiyev, Coach Fotiyev is a three time Connecticut High School sabre champion and is an assistant coach for the Morgan Fencing Team. Coach has competed in world Cup events and is currently an A rated sabre fencer.
